Blue Ridge Community Action is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality of life for low-income individuals. Our program and service availability may vary by county. Please see below for more information. 

Kids in Playground
Child Care

BRCA offers Head Start, Early Head Start, NC-PREK, and daycare programs in Burke and Caldwell counties. BRCA centers are five-star rated and accredited by the State of North Carolina.

Adult Day Center

Our Adult Day Services program is uniquely designed specifically for the elderly and/or adults needing a safe, nurturing, stimulating, enriching atmosphere. These services are available as a community resource to assist primary caregivers.

Affordable Rentals

BRCA provides affordable rental housing to income-eligible families in Burke, Caldwell, and Alexander counties. All units meet energy conservation standards, reducing tenant utility bills. BRCA recognizes that substandard housing affects a family's health and well-being and children's ability to learn and grow.

VITA Tax Program

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an IRS and community-sponsored program designed to assist low to moderate-income taxpayers with the preparation of their annual tax returns at no cost.

Community Services

BRCA offers a twofold community services department: Information and Referral and the REACH Self-Sufficiency program. The Community Services department helps pair eligible individuals and families with available services through case management.

Foster Grandparents

Foster Grandparents volunteer in schools, daycares, and youth facilities. The Foster Grandparent Program serves children ages 0-12 years of age. Volunteers receive a tax-free stipend each month that does not count against SSI/SSDI/Social Service Programs.

CIRCLES

Circles™ is a national program designed to eliminate poverty. Circles™ has proven results in assisting families to become self-sufficient by reducing government assistance and developing and achieving educational goals and objectives. Families are provided the training, networking, and social capital essential to escaping poverty. 

Food Delivery
Home Delivered Meals

The Home Delivered Meals Program is funded through the Home and Community Care Block Grant (HCCBG). The program provides a nutritious meal to persons who live in Caldwell Count and meet specific criteria.

Thermostat
Weatherization

Weatherization, HAARP, and other energy programs and services provided by our agency are free of charge for eligible homeowners or renters in Burke, Caldwell, Rutherford, Catawba, Alexander, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Stanly, and Union counties.

SCSEP

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a community service and work-based job training program for older Americans operated under a U.S. Department of Labor grant. BRCA is always looking to enroll new program participants aged 55 and older to help them obtain the skills needed for long term employment.

Congregate Nutrition

The Congregate Nutrition Site provides opportunities for older adults in Caldwell County to be socially, physically, and mentally active. The program is open to Caldwell County residents aged 60 years and over, and their spouses.
