BRCA Information and Referral Program

Blue Ridge Community Action reaches out to the community by offering a variety of services and programs.

The Information and Referral Program provides information, referral, and outreach assistance in low-income areas, identifying families in need of assistance and linking those families with the appropriate BRCA and/or other agency resources. Needs data collected by Community Services staff are used as a basis for new BRCA program development, advocacy and the development of programs in local communities.

BRCA is one of the few agencies routinely knocking on neighborhood doors to survey needs and to provide families with needed information.  Family Needs Assessments help Community Service Workers determine family needs, family goals, and eligibility for services.

Clients who receive services through BRCA programs are closely tracked through a centralized intake and data collection system. Each service a client receives is recorded and the progress the family makes toward self-sufficiency is closely tracked and monitored.

In partnership with area agencies, BRCA's Community Services outreach staff has established a true system of cross-referral to provide clients with additional sources of assistance and services throughout the service area.

Self-Sufficiency Program

Self-Sufficiency Program provides case management and other support services necessary to move families to self-sufficiency and above the poverty guidelines. Family needs are assessed to identify family strengths. Families are linked with needed resources to assure success.

Program services are directed to assure families achieve a greater sense of authority over their lives by participating in training, workshops and presentations that include financial literacy and budgeting and employability skills and providing support services.
